T&C Grinding Attachment Pt1: Watching paint dry …
Part 1 of restoring a tool and cutter grinder attachment for grinding radii.
In this (lengthy) part, I show how I do my painting. I feel this is an often neglected and misunderstood part of machine restoration / repair. Hope this is helpful to some of my community!
Part 2 and 3 will (have to) follow within the next weeks ...

Here's a test with the ID grinding attachment that I have shown you briefly at the 10th anniversary video of my Myford grinder. Unfortunately, I don't know the make of the spindle. If anyone knows, let me hear! Took the shots last year, but only now found time to edit them.

Here, I repair a bent shaft of a servo (Z-axis) of my MAHO MH 700 C mill. I used a Fenner Drives Trantorque TTMQ2438. Ordered at Leimbach GmbH (www.leimbach-innovation.de) in Germany. I'm not affiliated with Fenner Drives or Leimbach. This is no advertisement. I'm just a happy customer!

Generative gear cutting with a less simple tool. You should have watched this video in advance: ua-cam.com/video/SJQtx80euGM/v-deo.html The fly cutter shown in the video above was replaced by a disk cutter, thus speeding up the whole process considerably. Still, the tool is relatively easy to grind, as long as you have a T&C grinder and start with a disk mill. Proudly done with LinuxCNC on a MA...

I am most pleased that you are still alive and enjoying machine rebuilding?
If you were in the states I have 8 G-12 units that I want rebuilt.
Very nice just finished cleaning and painting the one I bought all Myfords are nice machines I have a MG 9 also which dose very nice work thank you for posting
Wow!
I am starting to scrape a small Harig Surface Grinder and this tool will help tremendously! Thank you!!!
Why not just use a whetstone ? Just curious.
Can that machine be used to cut internal splines?
An INTERNAL spline?! I think you can amswer that question by yourself by watching the tool and tool holder again.
🤣🤣🤣....i cant upload image to show you that it can and see your face.
Hello. I have just bought one identical. Do you still own it? I would like to get in touch.
I'm sorry, I sold it. What's your question? Maybe I still can help.
I saw that inside of it there is no oil bath like I saw at the Klopp machines. How does the bull tooth wheel gets oiled? Should I keep it greased and that’s it? Another question would be how can I engage the down automatic feed? As I noticed there is a pulley just like for the horizontal feed bit it doesn’t seem to engage anything. Also… what the direction of the motor should be? As you look at it and the belts from above should it move to the machine, or the other direction?
I want to do this to my grizzley lathe that is completely garabage out of the box. I wish I had time and a scraper. I bought some carbide and weld a hand scraper to practice first.
Beautiful work, true mastery! Can you please tell a newbie like me the tolerances usually used between the cast cavity and core to have a perfect fit? Also what tolerances do you use in the cold box to have the sand core sized correctly? Do you need a 0.1 or 0.2mm upscale of the cavity due to sand grains or not? I am searching all internet sourcces and still can't find any information about that.
Honestly, I never measured that. I just made it the same size as I wanted. Yes, it might come out at tad smaller. The core itself does not shrink. But 0.1mm in casting is not worth thinking about. You will have more shrinkage of the part than that. Albeit, as the core is quite solid, the shrinkage will be less that on an OD. I always go with 1% and try to keep the casting temperature low. Around 650 and down to 600 °C or even 580 °C. Many cast way hotter, maybe they can't afford a propper thermometer? IR thermometers do not work, because of emissitivity (SP?) of aluminium (SP!).
Best of all is the cat in the background. 😊 Thanks for these videos.
Great , keep up the good work . Nice 👍👍❤
You have some very good friends. That is incredibly amazing. The first few seconds watching it glide all of my senses were discombobulated. I was experiencing some type of mental G-forces. Very good work.❤❤

thx for the video! i just tried to paint the spindle stock of a bearing eating bernardo lathe - i went to a „fachmarkt“ since i know nothing about painting and told them about my plans and asked what type of paint i should use and how to clean residual oil off - off i went with a couple rattlecans (quite expensive ones) of 2k ep primer and 2k ep paint and the knowledge to clean everything with „nitroverdünnung“ und „bremsenreiniger“ i soaked the whole thing in said chemicals and so i did my best according to the datasheet - after 1 week of drying, everything peeled of with a spatula - back to square one - is there anything obviously wrong with my work, or should i buy a paintgun and try again with ep primer and pu paint? i’m such a paint noob! i’ll wait for the next video!
2K rattle can should be sufficient. Brake cleaner is nonsense in rattle cans. I don't know how generations of mechanics could live without them. And I have severe doubts how well that crap works for this application. For degreasing, acetone is best, but nitro thinner is good too and easily available. Now why did all that peel off later? Is the first layer still in place? Was the shelf live of the paint expired? They don't last forever! 1 ... 2 years. EP-primer is OK, but for the finish, I prefer PU as it (in my experience) has a nicer finish. Did you shake the cans well? Did you sand the primer? Scotch brite ("Schleifflies") gray or fine black is enough. If you buy a can of filler, it is cheaper than a rattle can: www.123lack.de/ep-2k-grundierung-1kg-set-inkl.-haerter-mipa-epoxy-100-20 The paint is more expensive: www.123lack.de/mipa-2k-acryllack-set-pu240-inkl-haerter-ms10-alle-ral-farben (it is PU, not acrylic). They also do have a cheap spray gun (NOT a HVLP = High volume, low pressure). But all this will set you back at about 100 € 😞They do have 2 K rattle cans, but I have no experience with those. Hope that helps!
@@MuellerNick Hello, is there a way to contact you?
@@MuellerNick Xylol/xylene for degreasing, if still available? And it smells nicely. 🌹

good to see you back and making videos again!
Thanks for the video, I am looking forward to the grinding video. I have a radius attachment for my KO Lee grinder but I have not had much success setting it up accurately.

Aguri!
A rather edgy video. But cutting edge stuff. And yes the Chinese both sail and sell Junk. Thanks for the pointers, I am working on a really cheap Chinese X / Y table for a drill press and am facing ways that clearly have a taper from end to end.

True story
This is brilliant, I’m just starting work on a little Boxford lathe and it has a double V carriage and was wondering how I can measure. I had assumed dowels but the jig helps make this repeatable. Thanks for the tips
